# Conservation

Objective: - Demonstrate the knowledge in the importance of the conservation of nature.

1. Be able to describe the effect on wild life resulting from: fire, over growing, unwise forest practices, soil erosion, and water pollution.&#x20;
2. Give a talk for 5 minutes or write an essay of about 500 words on “The need for conservation for the survival of life on Earth”.&#x20;
3. Understand the importance of wild life and nature reserves&#x20;
4. Discuss with the examiner the ways in which he could and is helping conservation in his town or village
5. Do one of the following:-
   1. Select a species of endangered wild life in our country and discuss with the examiner ways and means of protecting it&#x20;
   2. Cary out or assist with a bank erosion control or other improvement project on a stream, pond or tank etc...
   3. Help carry out a conservation project on a farm, or Scout camp site&#x20;
6. Do one of the following:-&#x20;
   1. Build and set out in suitable places at least 3 nestling boxes
   2. Visit a project built for flood control or for increasing flow in a river during a drought or for irrigation purposes and write a report on that.&#x20;
   3. Find out what happens to domestic waste and industrial waste in his community and write a report on&#x20;
      1. The methods used to purify water and prevent pollution or&#x20;
      2. Action that should be taken to prevent polluting the waterways.&#x20;
7. Name three causes for floods, and three methods of controlling floods
